Welcome Back Letter to Parents

Welcome Back Letter to Parents

Greetings Families,

Summer break is drawing to an end and it is time to start thinking about the first day of school. I hope you had the opportunity for some rest and relaxation during the summer as well as time to enjoy friends and family. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 22nd, and our staff are eager to welcome you to the new school year.

As you start thinking about the upcoming school year, I encourage you to talk with your child/children about what will define a successful school year. In school, children have a unique opportunity to have a fresh start each year. This can provide the opportunity for them to improve in needed areas and reinforce areas where they have been doing well.

Another conversation I encourage you to have with your child/children is about getting involved in school and community activities. Research is clear that students who have a tie to an activity or sport at their school perform better in academics. Help them find an area of interest or something they feel passionate about, whether it is a sport, club or community service. This passion will also help them want to attend school. Every school day count, so it is imperative your child/children attend school every day unless they are ill.

The first day of school is one full of excitement and anticipation. Work with your child/children to maintain this excitement throughout the school year. Our teachers and support staff are eager to welcome back students, and their highest priority is student success. This success will be based on a partnership between your child and the teacher. One of the best ways to foster this success is through continued communication. Share when things are going well and when things are needing improvement.

Finally, as a parent/guardian, I encourage you to get involved in the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at your school. Without PTA support, many opportunities for students would not exist, and the PTA cannot provide support without parents volunteering their time and expertise.

Wishing you a happy and successful 2018-19 school year!

Sincerely,

Fred Van Vleck, Ed.D.
