2023-2024 BACK-TO-SCHOOL

Dear Lafayette Community,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope that you all have had an enjoyable summer and have taken time to do the things that you most enjoy with family and friends. I am very much looking forward to welcoming all of our students to campus in a few short days!

At Lafayette, we believe in providing a safe and responsive educational environment for all students. We work hard to promote an inclusive school that fosters a love of learning. We believe in a Culture of Kindness at Lafayette Elementary and we pride ourselves in supporting each other with respect, empathy and understanding.

Please note the daily schedule for students will be 8:10 am to 2:42 pm with the exception of Mondays for staff collaboration ( 8:10 am to 1:55 pm ). Please keep an eye out for the “First Day of School” packets--these need to be completed and returned to school as soon as possible.

Please take note of some specific dates to keep in mind over the next few weeks:
● August 18th - Popsicle Posting from 2:45-3:30 - Please stop by the front of the school to see class lists
● August 21st - First day of school ( Monday early release time of 1:55 pm )
● September 1st - September 16th School Site Council Elections
● September 4th - Labor Day/No School
● September 6th - Back To School Night (6:00-7:00 pm)
● September 12th - 15th - Family Empathy Interviews/Minimum Days (12:50 dismissal)

I would like to welcome the following new staff to Lafayette:
● Amanda Redikop/Kindergarten
● Shawn Khattak/2nd grade
● Daniel Sabatier/5th grade

Staff returning to Lafayette, but with a changed assignment:
● Scott Campbell/3rd & 4th grade combination class
● Harmony Pelren/ELD teacher

We will be working hard to increase attendance this year and lower our number of tardy arrivals. This will be a school wide focus and I look forward to seeing gains across grade levels! Any students arriving after 8:10 am need to stop by the Office for a tardy slip. The Lafayette Cafeteria will be open daily starting at 7:45 am and the rest of the campus will open for all students at 8:00 am. Breakfast will be served daily and is free for all students.

I hope that you will take every opportunity to become involved with our Lafayette School Community, through volunteering in a variety of ways such as: joining our PTA, School Site Council, ELAC, PBIS team, or attending and supporting school events. Please Like Lafayette Elementary on Facebook to receive updates regarding upcoming events.

You may also review updates and information on the school webpage at: https://lafayette.eurekacityschools.org/. Research clearly supports that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child!

Moving into this new year, we will continue to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our community. As principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to schedule an appointment with me through our school secretary, to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas you would like to share to help make this the best year yet!

See you soon,
Quincy Brownfield
