20-21 Learning Plan Update
Greetings Parents,

Last night, the Eureka City Schools Board of Trustees met for over three hours to hear public input on, discuss and determine our learning plan for the upcoming school year. After much deliberation, direction has been provided that we will start the school year on August 24th with a Distance Learning Model. The Board will meet on September 15, 2020 to reevaluate returning to face-to-face instruction.

To support this model, we will have all of our students who are struggling report to school for intervention in small, socially distanced groups. In the coming weeks, we will be focusing our efforts and professional development on creating the best possible distance learning experience for students. While the details of this plan are not yet completed, it will include some face-to-face instruction for struggling students, but the core of the plan will be learning from home.

The decision was difficult for the Board as they worked to balance student and staff safety with the learning needs of students. As the plan is solidified, your student’s school will be in contact with additional details.

Anoche, la Junta de Fideicomisarios de las Escuelas de la Ciudad de Eureka se reunió durante más de tres horas para escuchar los comentarios del público sobre, discutir y determinar nuestro plan de aprendizaje para el próximo año escolar. Después de mucha deliberación, se ha proporcionado la dirección de que comenzaremos el año escolar el 24 de agosto con un modelo de aprendizaje a distancia. La Junta se reunirá el 15 de septiembre de 2020 para reevaluar el regreso a la instrucción presencial.

Para apoyar este modelo, haremos que todos nuestros estudiantes con dificultades se presenten a la escuela para intervenir en pequeños grupos socialmente distanciados. En las próximas semanas, centraremos nuestros esfuerzos y desarrollo profesional en crear la mejor experiencia de aprendizaje a distancia posible para los estudiantes. Si bien los detalles de este plan aún no se han completado, incluirá algunas instrucciones presenciales para estudiantes con dificultades, pero el núcleo del plan será aprender desde casa.

La decisión fue difícil para la Junta, ya que trabajaron para equilibrar la seguridad de los estudiantes y el personal con las necesidades de aprendizaje de los estudiantes. A medida que el plan se solidifique, la escuela de su estudiante estará en contacto con detalles adicionales.

Where: Regular Meeting – held via Teleconference


The Governing Board of the Eureka City School District will hold a public hearing via telephone conference/livestream to receive public comment (submitted via email) to seek input and take testimony from the public in regard to Resolution #20-21-005 to Establish 2020-21 Temporary Interfund Transfers.

By authorizing a temporary interfund transfer of money, the Board will provide district staff the necessary tools to address the event of a negative cash position as we finalize fiscal year 2020-21.

Instructions on Public Comments: You can submit public comment for the Public Hearing by emailing Eureka City Schools at Comments must include the agenda item number in the subject line of the email and if you want your entire comment to be read during the meeting, it MUST be under 500 words — which would take about three minutes to read.
