May 3, 2024 - Eureka, CA - The following is an overview of the Eureka City Schools Board of Education regular public meeting from Thursday, May 2, 2024. 

Employee Recognition Ceremony:

  • Newly Hired, Newly Permanent Certificated, and Newly Permanent Classified Employee Recognition
  • Retiree Recognition for Classified and Certificated Employees: Jamie Bush, Vicki Forsman, Valorie Heidger, Carrie Matson, William Morris, Belinda ThrashECS Newly Hired, Permanent and Retiree Employees

Certificated Employee of Year School Site Nominees

  • Administrator of the Year: Charley Batini - Director of Maintenance, Facilities and Operations

Eureka High AVID students recite the Pledge of Allegiance and provide updates about the AVID program:

  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an in-school academic support program, aimed to prepare students for college eligibility and success. Students in the program said AVID supported them through the college application process and financial aid and facilitated field trips to Santa Rosa Jr. College, San Francisco City State College, San Francisco State University, and UC Davis. Nineteen students in the 2024 AVID class have been accepted by more than 65 colleges and universities, including College of the Redwoods, Cal Poly Humboldt, San Jose State University, Sonoma State, and many more.

All items on the Consent Calendar were approved. Discussion/Action items were all approved and as follows:

  • Final Action on Resolution 23-24-040 and Decision Not to Reemploy Classified Employees for the 2024-2025 School Year
  • Final Action on Resolution 23-24-041 and Decision Not to Reemploy Certificated Employees for the 2024-2025 School Year
  • Annual Declaration of Need for Teachers with Emergency Permits and Limited Assignment Permits
  • Discussion and Consideration of Approval of Low Bid for the EHS Albee Stadium and Bud Cloney Field Project

Presentations, reports, and discussions are solely meant to inform/update the Board and gain feedback. They are as follows:

  • Enrollment Update
  • Annual CTE Report (Career and Technology Plan for Secondary Schools including Continuation High School and Dual Enrollment)
  • Annual District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) Presentation
  • Local Control Accountability Plan Update
