Coronavirus Update March 15, 2020

Greetings Eureka City Schools Families,

A State of Emergency was declared by Governor Newsom and a National Emergency was declared by President Trump regarding the pandemic of the coronavirus. We have been watching the progression of the pandemic closely and working with public health to help us with the appropriateness of the timing for closing our schools. Today, in an Emergency Eureka City Schools Board meeting, the Board determined it is in the best interest of our students and our community to temporarily close schools. They took action to close schools for the next four weeks which will take us up to our spring break, the week of April 13th. School is scheduled to reopen Monday April 20th. This may change as the coronavirus develops. In the coming days, we will be meeting with teachers and principals to determine a course of action for extended learning opportunities for students and a community meal plan for children under 18. We will keep you posted as this plan is formalized. For now, please continue to practice frequent handwashing and proper social distancing as we fight the spread of the coronavirus.
