Washington Elementary school received a special delivery of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) kits, books, and materials through funding by Chevron’s Fuel Your School Program and DonorsChoose.org. The project materials including gauges, lamps, marbles, sand paper and flashlights, are being used to provide hands-on learning experiences in the areas of science and engineering, reinforcing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for students. Mrs. Lillard, the Kindergarten teacher who applied for the project funding, is passionate about sparking her young students’ natural curiosity. Lillard shares, “One thing that rings true for all of them, despite their diverse backgrounds, is that they are excited about learning! For many of them, Kindergarten is their first real taste of school, and even though it is early in the year, their eagerness to learn is contagious!” Lillard is eager to begin the STEM units with her class, exclaiming “These units and materials are hands-on, engaging, and fun!”
