The Board appointed Henry “Hank” Beck to the vacant position of Trustee to Area 2. Last night an open meeting was held to conduct a formal interview of three applicants for the vacant position. After questions from the Board and the public, the Board cast a ballot vote and the successful candidate was Mr. Beck.
Beginning in 1978 until his retirement in 2002, Mr. Beck was an administrator for Eureka City Schools. His positions included principal at Zoe Barnum Continuation High School, Zane Junior High School, Winship Junior High School, Worthington K-8 School, and assistant principal at Jacobs Jr. High School and Eureka High School. After retirement, Beck spent one year as a director for a K-12 educational program for Al Akhawayn University in Ifrain, Morocco; an English only teaching institution that provides services to children of University staff.
Mr. Beck earned his BS in biology and chemistry and secondary teaching credential at Chico State College and his Masters Degree in Educational Administration at Sonoma State College. He served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966.
The Governing Board and Superintendent look forward to working with Mr. Beck in the following months. The provisional appointment begins with last night’s motion and continues through to the next regularly scheduled election in November 2011.
