EHS Lockdown

This afternoon at approximately 12:25 p.m., Eureka High School was advised to go into lockdown as a result of a Eureka Police Department pursuit of a private vehicle within the vicinity.

The suspect’s vehicle was abandoned on K Street near the high school where the suspect continued on foot.  When Officer Chris Jenkins, the Eureka City Schools Resource Officer, became involved in the pursuit, he contacted school administration and recommended that Eureka High School go into a lockdown.  The lockdown lasted until approximately 1:20 p.m. when Officer Jenkins informed administration that the suspect was no longer in the vicinity.

The lockdown was handled well by staff and students, and administration is using this incident to improve on the process.
