Welcome Back Letter to Parents and Students

Welcome Back Letter to Parents and Students
Posted on 08/02/2019
Greetings Parents and Students,

Summer break is drawing to an end, and it is time to start thinking about the first day of school. I hope you had the opportunity for some relaxation during the summer, as well as time to enjoy friends and family. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 21st, and our staff is eager to welcome your student(s) for the new school year.

As you start thinking about the upcoming school year, I encourage you to have a conversation with your student(s) about getting involved. Research is clear that students who have a tie to an activity or sport perform better academically. Help them find an area of interest to focus on whether it is a sport, club, or community service. Help them find an area of passion.

This year, we are excited to implement Fountas and Pinnell, the District's new English curriculum for students in kindergarten through third grade. After much research and a pilot project by some of our elementary teachers, Fountas and Pinnell was determined to be an exceptional curriculum to improve student learning.

The upcoming first day of school is full of excitement and anticipation. Please work with your student(s) to maintain this excitement throughout the school year. To maximize their learning this year, please make sure your student(s) attends school every day unless they are ill. Being in school prepared to learn every day will have a dramatic positive impact on learning. Children are developing their life skills now, and it is important to reinforce the importance of education.

Finally, as a parent/guardian, I encourage you to get involved in the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at your school. Without the support of the PTA, many opportunities for students would not exist. The PTA cannot provide support without parents volunteering their time and expertise.

Wishing you a happy and successful 2019-20 school year!

Sincerely,

Fred Van Vleck, Ed.D.
