Important NoticeWe are pleased to report that we are working towards implementing a school schedule that would allow for our teachers to be able to participate in regular instructional collaboration. The focus of this collaboration will always be aimed at improving the instructional practices and methodologies with the intent of improving student achievement. Eureka High school has collaboration and our elementary schools have a minimum day opportunity quarterly for this purpose. Zane was the only comprehensive site within Eureka City Schools who did not have a systematic opportunity for collaboration. With the recent reorganization, we feel this is necessary more than ever. read more << Previous Next >>

Welcome to Zane Middle School!
We must be having a lot of fun, because time is just flying by here at Zane! We have just completed several successful Zane sponsored events. Our first Picnic on the Plaza was a success despite the inclement weather and we hope to see you at the next one. Over 300 students attended our first school dance and as they say, "it really rocked". Recently, we reestablished our formal Zane Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), have just completed our formal parent conferences, as well as participated in a comprehensive training session designed for all of our teachers. Additionally, our volleyball and soccer teams had hugely successful seasons and basketball tryouts are currently in process.
We hope that your child is settling into his/her classes. It is the time in the year when most students know the routines of the classroom and understand the general academic, behavioral, and social expectations we have established. By and large, most are doing what they need to do to move in a positive direction both in and outside of the classroom. There are a couple of school expectations we would like your continued support with.
- No gum or lollipops at school
- Clothing must be appropriate and must properly cover all parts of the body (no hats, no chains, no hoods, no sagging, and tops must sufficiently cover the chest area, etc...)
- Helmets must be worn if riding a bike to school and bikes must be locked in the racks
- Students may not use electronic devices during school
- Bullying and Harassment is not acceptable
Halloween is upon us. We are going to allow our students to dress up at school on Friday October 31st should they choose to. We just want to ensure that students wear appropriate costumes that day. That means the costumes must properly cover all parts of the body, and must be of an appropriate nature. Please do not have students bring masks or accessories that could injure someone. Additionally, we want to be sure that costumes do not intentionally or unintentionally make fun of or ridicule others and are not sexually explicit. Your support with this is greatly appreciated!!!!
Our next Picnic on the Plaza will be Friday, November 7th from 12:25 to 1:15. Please bring a picnic blanket or folding chairs. If the weather is again inclement, we will offer a spot for those attending in our small gymnasium.
We will be having a minimum day Monday, November 17th for staff training. School will be released at 12:20pm. Busses will run at 1:45. For those who need to wait for the busses, we will provide some activities through our after school program until 1:45.
Thank you to all of the parents who have supported us this year. We are still working out some bugs but all in all, feel very pleased with the direction we are heading. We have a great group of students here. Please find ways to stay actively involved in your child's education. Education is a partnership and your involvement is critical.
Enjoy the fall. Stay healthy, and stay involved!!!!
