The resignation of Elaine Gray, Eureka City Schools Board of Education Trustee Area 3 creates an opening for a new board member. At its March 4, 2009 board meeting, the Eureka City Schools Governing Board agreed to appoint a new member rather than hold a special election.

Registered voters residing in Area 3 with an interest in serving on the Eureka City Schools Governing Board are invited to apply. Area 3 includes two sections of Eureka. The first section is within the following boundary: Beginning at I Street and Everding travel west to F Street; north on F Street to Sonoma; west on Sonoma to Williams; 1 block north to Del Norte; west on Del Norte to B Street; north on B Street to Cedar; east on Cedar to C Street; north on C Street to 8th Street; east on 8th Street to N Street; south on N Street to 14thStreet; west one block on 14th Street to M Street; south one block on M Street to 15thStreet; west on 15th Street to I Street; south on I Street to Everding. The second section is within the following boundary: At Cypress Avenue (Winship) as the crow flies north to Harrison; north on Harrison to Myrtle and as the crow flies north to 7thStreet; east along Eureka Slough. At this point the boundary does not follow roads but jags along the outskirts of all the Myrtle Town area south to Harris at Redwood Acres; west on Harris to Harrison including the residents south of Harris to Harrison. Applicants must file at the Eureka City Schools District Office in the Superintendent’s Office at 3200 Walford Avenue, Eureka, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009. To file, please provide your resume and cover letter that includes your complete name, residential address, phone number, and e-mail. The name only of all applicants will be published in the Times-Standard March 27-29, 2009.
At a special meeting on March 31, 2009, at 5:30 p.m., applicants will be interviewed in public session. Each applicant will be asked to make a personal statement and answer questions posed by the Board and members of the audience. The Board will make their decision after the interviews, and the successful applicant will be seated at the April 1, 2009 regular meeting.
